The Compact-M is an Inmarsat-M satellite
telephone with Inmarsat global beam service (significantly more coverage than
available with the Inmarsat spot beams used by Inmarsat M4/Mini-M).
It is similar in size and weight to most
Mini-M terminals. It operates on DC power. Outfitter Satellite
offers an external battery pack with AC charger for use with the Compact M.

Inmarsat M4 terminals can be used to access the GAN (Global Area Network) which supplies
voice and ISDN services (including 56 kbps, 64 kbps, and 3.1 kHz Audio). GAN is suitable for internet access and H.320
video communications.
The Thrane & Thrane Capsat Messenger Inmarsat M4 terminal
provides voice, 3.1 kHz audio (suitable for 14.4 kbps faxing with a conventional fax equipment) and 64 kbps (ISDN) data/internet access.
The
Nera World Communicator
Inmarsat M4 (GAN) terminal is the lightest Inmarsat M4 terminal.
It has voice and ISDN (56 kbps, 64 kbps, and 3.1 Khz audio) capability.
Nera also produces an Inmarsat Mini-M Land Portable terminal (specs below) and an Inmarsat Mini-M Marine terminal (with tracking antenna).
